Greg McElroy: Lane âKiffin ainât an optionâ for Alabama job, âburned too many bridgesâ
Greg McElroy contends Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin “ain’t an option” for the Alabama football job.
The SEC Network analyst – and former Alabama quarterback – stated his case on his show “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX 94.5-FM in Birmingham.
“Ya’ll, Kiffin ain’t an option,” he said Thursday. “I’m just going to tell you right now. Let’s just get out in front of it. Stop. It ain’t happening.
McElroy said Kiffin “burned too many bridges in Tuscaloosa.”
Kiffin, 48, served as the Alabama offensive coordinator under retiring Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa from 2014-2016, winning a pair of national championships in the process.
“I know he scored a lot of points,” McElroy, who led Alabama to the 2010 BCS championship, said. “It ain’t happening.
“Lane Kiffin is out. Not an option. Will not have his name vetted. Not an option. You can remove him.”
The take is in stark contrast to AJ McCarron’s take. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and former Tide star believes his former team should bring in Kiffin.
“Lane is the only coach in college football that is a head coach of another university that is allowed to tweet about another university that is in the same conference, the same division as him over the years,” McCarron, who won three national championships – two as a starter – at Alabama, said.
“Hell, he tweets ‘Roll Tide’ more than he does ‘Come to the Sip.’”
